Rebecca Neel

Research

I'm a fourth-year PhD student in social psychology at Arizona State University, working with my advisor, Steven Neuberg, the Kenrick/Neuberg/Becker Social Cognition lab and the Ledlow/Sadalla lab of the Decision Center for a Desert City. My undergrad degree is in English from Carleton College, and I took post-baccalaureate classes in psychology and other disciplines at Portland State University.

Most broadly, I am interested in the range of ways in which we conceptualize others in relation to ourselves. Specific projects examine stereotyping and prejudice (from both perceiver and target perspectives), self/other overlap and perspective taking, impression formation, and emotion perception. I am also interested in what evolution does (and does not) offer social psychology and how evolutionary approaches can expand psychological science and application – for instance, to motivate conservation-oriented behaviors.
